The Bragging Rights tournament was an unique experience. We played our games at a Moose Lodge in Billerica, under a tent in their yard. I joked about playing Porch-hammer on my deck out back, but this was a full tournament experience in the outdoors. The temperature was blissfully perfect in the morning, then slipped from Paradise down to Hell in the afternoon and evening. A faint breeze kept the air moving and everyone from passing out. We had a grilled lunch, and some of us worked on our tans between rounds. So much pasty flesh!

I ended the day with a 11-9 win, 13-7 win, and 10-10 draw. Overall our team was doing very well. I invited a number of the local players down to Arlington for Blue Ribbon BBQ. I made it inside the store and bellied up to the window to order, and noticed that I was alone in line. My friends were standing outside, faces pressed to the glass. Turns out Blue Ribbon was closing, I snuck in just before they locked up. I was tempted to order twelve pulled pork sandwiches and eat at home, but we ended up going to Little Q instead.

Day 2 was just as hot, but we only had two more games to go. I put on my sun tan lotion, picked up my dice, and started my game. One bad decision and a lot of bad dice (too much lotion perhaps) led me to a 5-15 loss. I made up for that in my last round with a 20-0 win against my last opponent. It was one of my better performances, but what mattered here was how the team did. We placed third out of ten teams. The real benefit was testing our lists and learning how pairings went, skills several of us will need once we go to Poland. I also got to hang out with Tegin at her housewarming and watch some Dollhouse.

The week breezed by. One of the highlights was The Whisperer in Darkness, our Fantasia movie of the week. It was based on the H.P. Lovecraft story, shot in the style of a 1940's monster movie. It was very cool and genuinely creepy at times. Tomorrow the Fantasia Films for 2012 should be released. I've seen a few blurbs already, and my excitement is growing! This weekend while people were partying in the woods at Firefly, I was playing lots of practice games with my ETC buddies. At this point in my life, I think I would have had a better time than I might have, but there's always next year. I have no problems with going hardcore with the gaming until the ETC.

I still haven't been back to Spin Jam. Other hobbies are taking priority right now, and avoiding it means I'm less stressed about the social dynamics. I still go to Excess and parties, but I may be done with that particular hobby. There are some good reasons to go back, to work on my social skills if nothing else. I went to an off-week Ceremony last night, and had a prettt good time. A bit of a mood dip on the way home, but while I was there I danced quite a bit and had a "OMG what is that song?" moment. Tomorrow night is Excess, and Friday is Xmortis. I'll get to see some familiar faces, maybe make some plans to hang out.
