A light rain was still falling when I joined Matt for his drive-in movie night. The Princess Bride was the first feature. It's been years since I watched it, and I'm happy to say it holds up. It was one of those movies watched over and over in dorm rooms in college, like Monty Python's the Holy Grail. Most of the lines were etched into my brain, but I refrained from shouting along. The rain gradually stopped, and soon our numbers increased to about a dozen. Some of them had never seen the movie before, if you can believe that. The crowd grew much smaller for the second featre: Tombstone. I counted at least ten big named actors in that movie. It was long and a bit rambly, but very entertaining. I don't know when it happened, but I've really come to love the Western genre. I even ran a Western based RPG, my latest (but hopefully not last) foray into running a game.
Saturday I spent the morning helping an old friend move, then dragged my sweaty ass home for a Warhammer game with an old friend returning to the hobby. Our game was interrupted by a wonderful thunderstorm, which I took a break to soak myself in. My first thurder-shower of the year. Brian used to trounce me regularly in Warhammer, but he hasn't played in years, and this time I was the one who tabled him. I'm sure his skills will return, it's always good to have quality competition around. The night ended in an unusual place: a karaoke bar with Sara and a group of her friends. I spent too much on some substandard drinks, and was tortured by some truly awful songs, but got to listen to some good singing as well. I still don't know where that monstrously epic sound came from, Sin, but it was awesome. My contributions to the night were "Girl You'll Be A Woman Soon" and "Tribute" which closed out the night.
Sunday morning I cleaned my office and worked on some more painting before heading to DND. I will be so happy to leave the City of Endless Morally Grey Decisions and return to a little more straight forward adventuring. After trying to safeguard a few thousand barely functioning humans and create a measure of structure, we are finally going to eliminate the last Big Bag of this chapter. Said Big Bad and his flunkies nearly killed us all last time. Yikes.
Four more days until the tournament players arrive, five more days before the team tournament. It's back to the painting mines this week, but I'll be sure to take some time for socializing.
