The Cats in the Cradle
Jul. 6th, 2011 04:05 pmMy parents completed their latest visit last weekend. Watching them during their visit, I can't for the live of me figure out how I grew up to be the way I am. Mom spent half her time reading, the other half watching movies with me. Dad played poker on the computer while we were at home, even while we were watching movies. It bothered me at the time, but he assured me as they were leaving that he had a good time. He spent his time close to me, doing his own thing, having a good time. Who does that sound like, I wonder? We spent a little bonding time repairing the windows in the apartment.
This trip I introduced them to the BBC series Jekyll an episode of Dr. Who, the latest Harry Potter movie, Xanadu, and Singing in the Rain. Those last three made for the most surreal triple bill I've watched. We also ate lobster in Rockport, grilled steaks and burgers in the back yard, and traveled to Spectacle Island (despite my viciously hurting my lower back Sunday morning doing shoulder presses). I balanced my family time by having a John Carpenter double feature with Spriggan and his (now) fiance, and celebrating a birthday atT.T's Mom and Dad are getting on in age, and they were plenty content to sleep in, and relax while I was still sleeping in.
The week rolls on, and my back improves, and my adventures will settle into memory. They were happy to hear of my progress, liked my shorter haircut, and continued to be proud of me and what I've made of my life.
