jchrisobrien: (evil monkey)
A series of small events added together to make a really sucktastic day in the trenches.  When I got home I proceeded to make things much worse.  Thanks to my roommate, her very presence was enough to get me out to Ceremony.  Thanks also to Fugbug for throwing down an hour of NIN and VNV, a solid hour I spent on the dance floor.  The feelings of the day were my fuel, burned on the dance floor, ashes scattered with a wave of my arms.  The ride home, drenched as I was, was a much lighter experience.

Except now I'm back in the trenches.  Literally and figurativly.  I'm not expected to go over the top today, but there are some objectives to be taken.  Just have to wait until the shelling stops.
jchrisobrien: (big trouble!)
I was so tired during the artillery bombardment this morning (or group meeting, as some call it) that I actually started to hallucinate.  There were shoes under the table that weren't mine.  Words on our meeting paper randomly highlighted themselves in yellow.  I saw sheets of bluish paper turning on the desk in front of me, even though there was only one piece of paper there.

Bombardment had ended.  Objective is in sight.  Gas mask in place.  It's about time to go over the top.
jchrisobrien: (the future!)
Any mission you can crawl away from...

The objective was taken, but I don't know how long it will be held. Fatigue and anger took their toll, and some wounds were dealt by friendly fire. I'm lying in the medical tent now. The doc says he's seen a lot worse and I should consider myself lucky. I get a night of good rest before they turn me out in the morning. I can smell the food in the next room, hear the laughter of my mates while they eat and swap stories. In a while I'll join them.

The battle begins again tomorrow (but the war metaphors will stop).
