We had a small group for poker on Friday. I'd been steadily losing my money, nickels and dimes here and there, a few big rounds (like when Ben pulled a full house out to beat my straight. It's the last hand of the night, before people want to go to a party. I leave my cards on the table, and play the last hand blind, throwing all of my money into the ring over the course of the deals. the table has Ace, Queen Jack, eight, and six. Tricia flips her cards: a six and eight in her hand for two pair. I flip my (blind) cards. Ace and Queen, higher two pair for me! I win a mightily fifty five cents of that hand, but the awesomeness of it is priceless.

I also returned to the Crossfit routine today. Holy crap my triceps and back are wishing I didn't! They'll thank me later.

I play poker regularly with my coworkers (you can see our stats on ethicsgradient.com) and while I clearly suck, I have slowly been getting better to the point that now I leave with my money, sometimes a few bucks more!

I was doing well until that big hand cleaned me out. After that I just watched it disappear, until I played blind and went for broke!

I was so disappointed to miss poker night last Friday that when I spotted some guys in the hut we were staying in playing, I immediately went over and sat down. I had a slow start, but I won three hands - one by bluffing on a pair of fours, and two in a row by pulling full houses on the river both times. The second time, one guy didn't believe I was betting on a strong hand a second time in a row, and I bankrupted him.

Victory is so sweet! And I didn't miss poker night after all!
