I couldn't bring myself to wait for the finale to BSG, so Ive read through the play-by-play, and read some synopses of it.

Television Without Pity has a great list of unanswered questions here: http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com/show/battlestar_galactica/battlestar_galactica_unanswere.php

The following opinions are all open to change once I actually see the episode. :)

How long would an advanced race of humans survive on a primitive planet with no technology or experience in such an environment?

GOOD question. I know if you put me on a farm, I'd be in rough shape w/out anyone to show me the ropes. Presumedly some of the Colonists are farmers, but then it would make sense for people to stick together instead of scatter everywhere. Are all those Tillium miners going to start growing corn? How about the Viper pilots? Not so much! I'm interested in hearing the rationale behind the decision to "go native", but I think it would be exceendingly stupid for them to give up their tech until they get themselves settled.

Why did Adama have to leave the others for good?

My impression from the season was that Adama was getting sick. His lover was dying, and his ship was wrecked. Even with Lee and Saul around, Adama was going to be a ghost of his former person. If he wants to go and die in peace and quiet, so be it.

Should we just forget how badly Tyrol treated Cally?

Why not? Human or cylon, people act irrationally when love is involved. How often do you see people complain about a partner or parent, only to do a 180 when a crisis comes up?

How is Hera "mitochondrial Eve?"

This seems pretty weak, unless it somehow means that her genetic material was what jump started our evolution. I still would have liked to see more of a tie in with Starbuck or the like.

Isn't it a coincidence that not only human life but animal life as well evolved exactly the same way on different planets light years apart?

Whatever. All of this has happened before, and all of this will happen again. Religion has a HUGE part in the series, whether the viewers like it or not.

Wasn't Earth 1 supposed to be our planet because the constellations from Kobol matched up to ours?

That's only a problem because Ron Moore pulled a bait-and-switch. We all thought the 13th tribe went and formed out Earth. In reality, they left and founded the all Cylon colony. Earth, our Earth, never existed, until we found that planet and named it Earth. This does beg the question, then how did Hera know the co-ordinates to get to Earth 2? Why did the song trigger? Questions within questions!

Was this entire series really about teaching us that robots are dangerous?

Stupid, pithy, question. The show was about a whole lot of things. Only one of them was that robots are dangerous. Clearly we need this message we've been making movies about this for years and still SCIENTISTS DON'T LISTEN! :)

more to come!

I think the ultimate answer to many of these questions is that even though BSG is billed as science fiction, at heart it is about mysticism.

The power of mysticism, moving behind the scenes of all that science, is a huge part of the series. I think people lose track of that a lot. While the scrolls of Pythea and the Colonial relgion are shown to be creations of the people, the cylons's God is portrayed as being real. Machines finding a real god? Wonder what that implies?

mm, but the prophecies in the scrolls of Pythia turned out to be true, so is the Colonial religion any less real?

Good point! We still lack any examples of Angels (head six, head baltar) that operate from the Colonial religion. It's interesting that the Temple of Apollo pointed the way to earth, the path of the 13th tribe (of cylons), yet the cylons worshiped the One God.

That is *very* arguable depending on how one interprets certain events in the finale. You'll have to see it.
