I've been getting a bad case of the late this week, even when my intentions are the best.  Tuesday's long round of drinks and dinner revealed that recent wounds are still unhealed, and conversations about "hooking me up" are not appreciated.  Wednesday's shopping for WildFire didn't happen, and my PT session helped for that day, but sure enough this morning I'm still sore, more than before.  I don't think my PT is getting to the root of the problem.  When I sleep, I hurt myself.  I'll be sure to drive this point home to the folks at Spaulding, and then I want to get back to lifting. Not exercising for two weeks and growing gradually softer isn't a balm for the brain, if you know what I mean.

Before I get all ranty, I'm definitely tired, under caffinated, and my arm and shoulder are throbbing despite taking four Advil.  We are not who we are in a moment, we are who we really are over the long haul.  There's a lot that feels like it needs to get straightened out, and I have to start doing it.  I should be doing much better for myself by this time.  So do it.  Do it, do it, do it.

I can tell you through experience that PT can often make you feel worse before it makes you better--the injured muscles don't really want to move around, and they let you know it. Definitely know what you mean though about feeling yourself getting soft though.

I hope that's the case. She did say there was improvement in some areas in my back, but the pain is coming from a different area. It's definitely related to my sleeping. She really went at the muscles yesterday, so this could be some pushback from that.

So many, many many moons ago I was in a very bad ski accident. I skied backwards into a tree after someone had cut me off. Well I had problems with my back from about 1987 to about 02. I got turned to someone who is a massage therapist. He deals mainly with injuries. He is also a physical therapist. It took me 4 sessions, but I haven't had problems related to the ski accident since then. And he's fixed a couple of things I did while doing SCA fighting. [livejournal.com profile] pax_industria has used him to. If you want more info his website is http://www.muscularsolutions.com/ . Hope it helps

Once my current round of appointments are up, I'll look him up. Thanks!

My PT talked about using some accupuncture as the next step. We'll talk about it on Monday. I'd love to get better soon, and get back to the gym.

Man, I totally hear ya on the lack of exercise affecting one's brain. I forgot how badly that can hit me, and then I missed working out last Thursday and Friday due to work craziness. You were surprised to see me at Shelter on Saturday, and I was surprised I even got out the door to get there. I got hit with a megadose of the doldrums and "why bother?" and "I can't do this". Then I missed working out the following Tuesday and Wednesday, and end up making that angsty lj post last night. Yeeeeeesh.

Thankfully, I got a solid cardio workout in today. Can you ride an exercise bike? Maybe not what you're after, but it could help get the endorphins going.

A bike could work, or ellipticals. I'm going to really try for running in the mornings. It's only 15 minutes or so, but it's interval running, which should work well on my metabolism.

I found that PT didn't do much for me and the only thing that helps my back and shoulder problems is swimming. I try to go twice a week if you ever want to join. I would check with the therapist to make sure it won't really break you though. I feel much much better now and I am looking forward to being more active again :)

Where do you swim? I haven't gone swimming in ages, and the last time I did I tried swimming across Walden pond. That didn't go so well, and I got tired very quickly. As you might expect!

I'll get to go swimming at WildFire this weekend, which should be nice.

I swim at the Kennedy Elementary School pool on Elm Street in Somerville. It is only 5 bucks to get in as a non-resident and they are open from 7 til about 845. Summer hours are starting soon and I think it opens and closes an hour earlier, but I have to check. I usually go on Mondays and Wednesdays. I am definitely going tomorrow, but Wednesday I won't be able to make it.

As soon as I am done with school and work (June 27th, woot!) I will be going just about every day.
