jchrisobrien: (big trouble!)

This post has been edited for whining

After the results of my sleep study this week, I'll know whether I need a new mattress or not.  Getting out of debt would be nice, but why should I be different than the rest of you?  That just leads to putting on airs.  I can look forward to solid nights of deep, restful sleep.  While I"m at it, some new footwear may be a necessary commodity.  Some good waterproof boots for sure, since winter is coming up.

Edit:  Mattresses are EXPENSIVE.  Just a statement of fact

Couldn't you get something to supliment the mattress you currently own? I hear that those memory foam pads aren't nearly as pricey as a new mattress and can really make a world of difference in how you sleep at night.

Mattress was next on my shopping list, but I put it off another 6 mo. or longer than planned to make room for more traveling. I have no travel planned as yet for 2007, so maybe I'll get around to mattress shopping then. I've been told the places to go are the factory direct mattress places -- and that there is one in Kendall Sq..

I never thought I'd use this sentence, but: "L.L. Bean has some really great winter boots right now!" ($40-60)

Yes, they are expensive, and usually not returnable. Not, at any rate, after taking them out of their wrap and sleeping on them (unless there's a defect). So, make sure to shop around and take your time deciding what it is you want. I bought a mattress a few months ago, and I fear I didn't make the right decision. Now I'm stuck with it. It's hard, though, to "test drive" a mattress unless you can take at least a nap on one, which is usually not feasible.

memory foam

I can vouch for memory foam!! It is such a wonderful thing, really it is. Firm, yet comforting. I have never slept like I do now with it. I look forward to crawling into bed. If you are having an issue with a box spring and want a cheap way to fix it, place plywood between the box spring and the mattress. It will give you a firm base while not giving into the sag. Just don't get into the habbit of jumping up and down on your bed and all will be fine, LOL.

If you do decide to get a new mattress, and if it's a full and not a queen - which may not work for you - we're not using my boxspring and I'd be more than happy to sell it to you for cheapy-cheap. Let me know what you decide and if this idea appeals to you.

BJ's sells mattresses. You might want to check them out.
