conflicting carbohydrates

I'm very tired lately.  Today my lunch nearly knocked me unconcsious, which tanked my mood to boot.  I know that a heavy carb lunch (like rice stir fry) will cause you to crash and get very sleepy.  Carbs are also needed to give you energy when you are working out.  I've been slacking, but I mean to get back into it.  I'm really tired of (heh) getting tired at work.  Gotta love that eternally depleting fleshy prison we're stuck with.

What do you eat for lunch that gives you energy?  What do you eat that knocks you out?

I've been consuming a lot of tea, rasberries and plums after lunch, that seems to do the trick.

Assuming I can drag myself to the Shaws accross the street after stuffing myself full of indian goodness.

Normally I start with tea in the morning, I could always start in on it later, or go for that second cup in the day. Indian goodness will knock you out.

Did you go to the big mega battle? How was it?

The mega battle was fun, but grueling. I was knocked out by the time I was done. I don't think I need to play another game of 40k for at least a year. Oh, and good won, because they cheated.

I eat the same peanutbutter sandwhich and tea combination pretty much every day. But I'm not sure I'm the person to aks about normal eating habits :)

Point taken!

An apple with peanut butter, some hummus with a high-fiber cracker or celery, beef stew (homemade), salad with hardboiled egg slices.

Basically, I try to put at least as much protien in my lunch as fiber or carbs. I also take a multivitamin in the morning and a b-complex at lunchtime.

Maybe try having the heavier (less fiber) carbs only on days you're working out and not for lunch but for a snack closer to the time you go to the gym?

I picked up some apples, I try to have one around 3 every day, they are good pick me ups. I'm going to see if I can go with a slightly smaller lunch today. I am doing the B complex thing, usually in the morning, but I will try taking it at lunch and see what happens.

I didn't drink alot of water yesterday, practically none as I think back on it. So some dehydration may have complicated the headaches and miserableness yesterday.

Sadly, most of the meals I make have rice as a major component these days.

i think it's good to pair some protein with snacks - like an apple with cheese or peanut butter. it helps keep you from getting hungry too soon.

my favorite afternoon snack is pistachios.

I used to keep some nuts in the office: walnuts or pistachios would be tasty.

i either bring my lunch (on low carb bread) or get half a sandwich, an orange & a diet soda from au bon pain. i then also pick up a granola bar for later in the afternoon when i'm hungry.

I used to have a sandwich and soup for lunches. The butternut squash and corn chowder were very tasty... and I know some other homemade recipies (potatoe cheese, and beef barley) that were excellent!

I find that eating green veggies does it for me, esp. if it's with chicken. If I eat too much bread-type or pasta items I start passing out, too.

Nuts are always good too.

Now I want a waffle sundae!
