While closing a bunch of old tasks at work, I noticed a bright flash of light out of the corner of my eye. I paused. Was that lightning? It was quickly followed by a loud, metallic sounding crash that rumbled on and on.

I felt my heart slow down as I peered out my window towards the Post Office and One Financial Center. I wasn't sure what to expect. All I saw was a turbulent sky, mail trucks making their delivery, sea gulls fighting a rising breeze.

My heart begins to speed up. It's official: I no longer think that loud noises are just an act of Nature anymore... Welcome to living under the gun.

Yeah, driving down Storrow Drive the other night, any time a plane would pass behind the Hancock Tower my heart would clench up... even if it was WAY WAY WAY off in the distance... :/

What really freaked us out was that the thunder preceeded the rain. No warning.

Later, once we knew what was going on, there was another big thunderclap. One of my coworkers joked, "There goes the building!" Another one said, "That's not funny," and he was right.

In the middle of watching "enterprise" the picture fuzzed up and then disappeared for a few moments .. there was nothing but a blank screen, and I was just waiting for "we interrupt this broadcast to inform you of another terrorist attack..."
