Like many of the rest of us in New England, I was snowed in today. I did a lot of painting during the day, but still found time to watch some movies. I love it when I rent two unrelated films that have the same actors in them by accident. Rent? Netflix? Is that a verb? Anyhow.

Last time this happened it was a Jeremy Sisto double feature (May and Wrong Turn). Today it was the lovely Sue Qi in The Transporter and So Close. The Transporter was pretty awful. Sue was woefully underused in this film, you'd think she was just some fluffy actress. I grinned to see Transporter rip off a lot of classic scenes, like the Indiana Jones style truck chase at the end. Some shots were lifted from True Lies too.

In So Close, Sue Qi is one of two sister's who wage a war against a criminal empire. It's much more stylish and has the benefit of HK action fare in it. A very enjoyable picture, one I'll probably watch again before I return it.

Another week of work beckons, and this weekend we'll be hosting a party. Should be interesting...

Hooray for snowed in with movies.
Actually we weren't snowed in. Ro and I were crazy enough to bundle up like Artic explorers and walked to Davis for burrito's and DVD rentals.
We then walked to our friend [livejournal.com profile] entochan's house.
We watched 'Big Fish' and then 'Kiki's Delivery Service'.
I found both movies delightful. In particular 'Big Fish' made me cry a bit, but in a good way. The father in that movie was very much like my Grandfather, whom while hardly the best person in the world in some aspects, was also a spinner of good tall tales. He died about this time last year, and the movie made me miss him.

I saw Big Fish in the theater and liked it for similar reasons. The Storyteller in me was very satisfied to see a movie about telling stories, and the impact they can have on people!
