jchrisobrien: (big trouble!)

I've seen a number of good films in the past few weeks. Monster was a harrowing, hard to watch look at a prostitute turned serial killer. It wasn't flashy or sexy, it was a desperat story about love in very strange places, and the things we do for it. Charlize Theron's performance was spellbinding.

Party Monster was everything that Monster wasn't. Flasy, trashy, characters that were glamorous on the surface and hollow on the inside. It was highly entertaining,in that window into a strange world way.

The Incredibles are just that. Jaw dropping animation, a killer James Bond style soundtrack, and a compelling story that will entertain the kids and have the adults nodding their heads. The script really appeals to the fan boy in me. Plus, I have a new fould respect for elastic-based superheroes. Mr. Richards, take note.

Speaking of comics, I recently added the latest Ultimate Spider Man and the penultimate Transmetropolitan to my collection. I also picked up two new collections, Fables by Bill Willingham (I was a fan of his from his Elementals days) and Powers (by Brian Michael Bendis, author of a lot of Ultimate lines of books). I imagine I'll get Wanted once that gets collected into graphic novel form at well, though anti-hero comics can get tiresome pretty quickly.

I'd go into more details, but I'm behind on my other writing project for the month. It would help if I picked something I liked to write about, but no I had to be all difficult. Serves me right for starting the month in a bad head space.

Alright, onward!

watching the Incredibles made me think of Star Wars, Return of the Jedi. Did you notice?

visually very pretty. the acting left a little to desire as there were no sets. the story was interesting.

it felt like a comic brought to life. or, ironically enough, an old school B sci-fi film, redone in CGI...
