One hand washes the other

I helped out our new Oracle admin by downloading some new drivers for her laptop, to correct a blurry screen issue.
While doing so, I noticed she was running AIM. (This was the program that was blocked at our company).
I asked her if I could look at her connection settings.
Thanks to her, I am now able to log on to AIM again. Feel free to ring me, for I will surely be ringing you!

I still can't hear/read the word "Orcle" without hearing some whiskey-voiced woman ask whether I'd like a cookie.

Cookies. Hmm.

Oh, surely the pun wasn't intended?

It wasn't really intended, but she did know that I would be able to fix her problem. She believed in my triumph over the machine.

Oh, no, I meant the accepting a cookie pun for the Matrix.

Oops. :)

was the fix setting the port to something other than the default? like setting it to port 80?

[identity profile] captain-grim.livejournal.com 2003-11-07 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
Port 80 is HTTP; Port 23 is telnet. doubtless you already knew that. ;-)

hey! i left a comment telling you to change the port when you first asked about it!

you never listen to me! :P

Here's the difference. I was using Trillian. I tried changing the port settings for AOL to 80. It said it connected, but I couldn't see you (or anyone). When I actually downloaded the AIM client, I tried port 23, and it worked. Presumedly, 80 would have worked too.

It's not that I didn't listen to you, I just used the wrong tools.
