My car has been rescued

I dropped off some money in the bank, and then took it out again to pay for the tow.
I fired off an e-mail to the folks at Ritual Design for the last of my reimbursement.
They responded today, after the paypal fee it exactly covers the cost of the tow. Score.
Within 3-4 days time, I will be back where I was. Which isn't very good.
I called the student loan office, they are sending me a deferment form so I don't have to pay them for a little bit.
I will be selling at least one more Warhammer army.
I am also going to try to enjoy my time up here over the next month and a half, in case I end up moving away.
So, a question for my readers: What other jobs should I be applying for, i.e., what else could you see me doing and doing well? Besides help desk, or painting miniatures.

Date: 2003-06-25 02:11 pm (UTC)Or how do you feel about high school students? Maybe you could parlay your help desk experience into a good background for tutoring, not just in computer stuff but also in whatever topics you always excelled in. Again, not big bucks, but probably better than UI...

Date: 2003-06-25 06:28 pm (UTC)I could get paid for painting miniatures but I wouldn't be able to charge enough for rent, and I doubt I could paint fast enough to make it profitable. It WOULD bring some under the table cash in, howerver.
One person has asked me to do some painting for him, so I probably will.

Date: 2003-06-25 05:46 pm (UTC)You can get full time work in retail or food service, but it won't pay as well, and you'll probably make too much to collect unemployment.
Working your way up to a decently paying management position is tough. Starting your own business is hell. I'm not sure I'm ready for it yet.
How's your Spanish? There are always jobs for the bilingual.

Date: 2003-06-25 06:30 pm (UTC)Can you do temp work and not have it cut into your unemployment benefits?
I will also be starting to pimp out my painting skills. Or trying to.

Date: 2003-06-25 10:35 pm (UTC)Temping - You can make up to a certain percentage of your original salary before the DET starts deducting from your unemployment check. I bet you could make an extra $2-300 a week on top of your current check. You have to report the income to the DET, of course, and they would be able to tell you how much you can make.
The trick is to not tell the temping agencies that you're on unemployment. Just tell them you're looking for a real job, and in the meantime, you're interested in X number of hours in a temp position.
You *pimp* somebody else, you *whore* yourself. ;)

Date: 2003-06-26 07:34 am (UTC)It occurred to me today that you would make an awesome cop. We really need more intelligent, decent cops out there. And maybe you could even get into cyber-crimes detective work; you're certainly more qualified for that than the average cop. My office manager's son is a Mass. state police officer; he actually left law to become a cop. He makes a buttload of money doing details (I'm talking $100K+, including his base pay). Right now he mostly does security for Gov. Romney.
It's the closest thing to superhero I can think of in this day and age.
