More cocktail parties, please.
Nov. 18th, 2013 01:57 pmI had the chance to meet Andy Potter again last weekend. He' a Scottish Warhammer player who was visiting the states for work, and my friend Travis talked him into joining us for a tournament. Both of us are well known for posting battle reports of our adventures on the table top, and this year we actually got to play a game against each other. It was my favorite game of the weekend as far as tactics and luck went, as I only lost by eight points after he made a dramatic last round comeback. The tournament was my worst performance ever: losing every single game, and then losing the "Smokin' Boots" award for the person who finished dead last. Now I've had some serious meltdowns in the past at my events, but after being a little down at the end of my last game, I rebounded (with the help of wings and the Kraken) and had an amazing evening with my friends. Losing all the games means there will be no Master's tournament for me this year, but I have lots of time to practice for 2014.
The highlight of this weekend was going to a housewarming party thrown by a friend. It had a Mad Men cocktail party theme, and all the guests dressed up to the nines. The cocktails flowed, I brought a baked brie that vanished almost as soon as I set it down. I was also the target of some ridiculous flirting, which I returned as diplomatically as I could (considering she was attending with her boyfriend.) Still, having that kind of attention is very nice. I miss the parties that I used to go to a decade ago, all the opportunities were there for me to explore the dating world, but I wasn't ready for them. The club nights have been a bit on and off, something for me to keep working on. Part of that is easy to fix: spend less time looking at other people, and more time Doing things. I have to talk to Kirsten and Matt about where they practice dance, that is a perfect opportunity to meet new people while doing something I want to do! Once my little bit of debt is caught up, I can investigate further.
Today I'm feeling particularly awesome.
