A Change of Plans
Jun. 19th, 2012 03:44 pmSaturday most of our WH team got together for practice games and grilling. Our team tournament is in two weeks, lists are submitted and can't be changed, so now it's just a matter of practice. I won my first game 13-7, and fielded a practice army against someone else. By the time we wrapped up, it was too late for me to drive to Salem for anything more than an hour. I was off to Sin-O-Matic instead. I made a point of visiting all the bartenders there, and had a splendid time. Sunday was a long day of recovery and painting. Nothing like a deadline to get more painting done.
My therapist has noticed that I am more more relaxed and centered at my sessions. He attributes some of that to being more comfortable with who I am and the things I do. I have veered away from fire spinning (but maintained the social aspect outside of spin jam) and focused on Warhammer recently, helping friends of mine practice for the European Team Championships in August. Playing against very good people has both improved my game, and my attitude towards gaming. I haven't tossed a dice in anger in months. The association of gaming and my own self worth is pretty much severed, a losing streak doesn't make one a loser.
I secured a ticket for WildFire on Sunday, and was looking forward to more adventures under the sun. Today I got a message from the coach of the Canadian ETC team (I'd sent him a message saying I was interested in being a mercenary member of their team). He confirmed today that they had their quotient of Canadian players, and that I was in as an official player.
This August I'll be fighting alongside the members of Team Canada in Poland. The tournament runs three days, but I set aside a week so I can make a trip down to Prague. I also have an old friend or two living in Germany, that I might try to visit. It looks like I've found my Big Adventure for 2012!
