On Cabins, capers, and coping
I'll be honest, I was a wee bit disappointed with the Cabin in the Woods when I first saw it. If you familiar with Joss Whedon, a lot of the things going on in the background will be familiar to you. I did fall into the hype trap about how ground breaking and game changing the film was. If you are not familiar with Buffy or Angel or Dollhouse, a lot of this will be refreshing and new.
Upon my second viewing, I found myself just sitting back and enjoying the ride (as well as looking more closely for small details, there's a LOT to look at). It holds up very well to a second viewing, and is an extremely satisfying, funny, and occasionally shocking film. What, you didn't think I was going to get into details w/out a spoiler tag, did you?
One of my better friends got engaged over the weekend, which is pretty fabulous for her, and I'm happy to see her finding some stability. I have ventured back into the world of OKCupid, with a new resolution to only contact people that I'd actually want to hear back from. I currently have a few e-mail exchanges going on, and we'll see where they end up. I did manage to claim a ticket to a big fancy party this weekend, but my efforts to secure a date have fallen through. If worse comes to worse, I still have Sin-O-Matic to fall back on.
It's been well over a month now, and I'd have to say there's a definite increase in coping with black moods and staying out of holes. I'm up for a status check this Friday, and plan on staying the course for a while. A month is still a short span of time, when compared to a life.
