Amazing, an update faster than every two weeks.
Friday: A birthday party at the Armory for a friend's boyfriend. Our party was on the mezzanine, the main floor of the Armory was not in use. It had a sort of sneaking in and having a stealth party vibe to it, but with no fear of being caught and kicked out by security. That sort of excitement is less fun when you're *cough* older *cough*. Sarah played a lovely acoustic guitar set in between DJ sets. The music was all over the map as they tried to cater to our eclectic taste. I spent most of the night sipping wine and observing, still beat from a long week of work and low sleep.
Saturday: Lots of sleeping in, and prepping for my tournament on Sunday. Then it was off to Tony's for the annual New Year's Eve dinner. This is a monstrous undertaking that involved days of cooking and prep time. Sara and I went over early to help with the last minute food prep, then I switched to bartending for the cooks as the guests began to arrive. The guest list included people from as far away as Montreal, San Francisco, and Washington DC. A special shout out to Joanna and Joseph who I don't think I've seen since the dinner last year. I met new people, learned a smattering of Japanese, found out a friend's wife is expecting, and down many a delicious delicacy. Sara and I left around eleven, but my night was not over. Francesca was going to be at the club, and since I missed my last chance to hang out on this side of a bar, I wasn't going to miss it. I arrived just in time to rescue her from an awkward conversation. A great night of dancing and crowd watching followed. Any night where the girls dancing on the poles stop their routine to give you a kiss hello is a good night.
Sunday: By some miracle, I actually got up and made it down to the tournament on time. I had a win, loss, and a draw; enough to tie for second place and win a painting award for my army.
I dodged most of the Patriots traffic (the event was held just past Gilette Stadium), but caught a little on my way home.
Monday was off to a groggy start, but there were amazing leftovers to get me through the day. The goal for tonight is to put a little time in at the gym, go to SpinJam, and then Ceremony for some birthday fun. Then a relatively early night and back at it tomorrow. Our W-2s are available electronically at work, so it's time to get some tax money back!
