The birthday weekend began with destruction! With hammer in hand, I helped crush walls and tear down paneling in my friend Richard's house. Dust filled the air, silverfish and centipedes ran for their lives. I only managed to almost electrocute myself twice removing a light fixture. After that I placed my sushi order, cleaned the house, and worked on music for the party. After finally purchasing a Thrill Kill Kult album I've had on take for over twenty years, I decided that my theme would be my favorite industrial bands from my formatives years in the scene: Thrill Kill Kult, Skinny Puppy, Ministry, Front 242 and Front Line Assembly. Nitzer Ebb and KMFDM should have been on that list, but by that time people had begun to arrive.

The poker part of the evening was a bust, but the house quickly filled up after that. Full being the operative word, the turnout was greater than expected. I can hardly be upset about that! The drinks and sushi flowed, I made the sushi cake, and certain old singing traditions were recreated in the wee hours of the morning. It was a whirlwind from my point of view, a vortex of awesomeness. I learned something new that night: if Sara is not home, I can stay up until the wee hours of the morning. If she's here, I'm out by one. Ha.

I had a date on my actual birthday at Snappy Sushi. She used to be the director of the Boston Underground Film Festival, and she's a frequent Fantasia attendee, so we had a lot to talk about. She's also a big fan of the FP. After the date there was DND and birthday cheesecake, followed shortly by much needed sleep.

I can safely say that the new year is starting out with a blast. Thanks to all of you for being a part of it. Let's see where the next year takes us!
