The tail end

Friday: Natasha is every bit as beautiful now as she was when I first met her twelve years ago. Her birthday passed happily with a small circle of friends, in the dimly lit glow of her living room. The crackling fire held the autumnal chill at bay, I learned a bit about falconry, and why a jar of lollipops was such a perfect birthday gift.

Saturday: The storm blew and blustered, but we brought our own warmth up to Salem to celebrate another birthday, for my fire spinning mentor Chad. The night started with hamburgers cooked on the stove, several tasty drinks and conversation, and when the rain abated we went outside to burn. The birthday boy told me my own style was really becoming evident when I pun the torches, moving beyond simply presenting techniques to moving and spinning in one glorious motion. He watched me perform with a big smile on his face. Call it my birthday present for you, I said.

Sunday: Our mage game wrapped up with a marathon session. There were some minor food coma issues (when will I learn), but Fast Lane tea came to the rescue, and we wrapped up two of our main plot threads. Let me take a moment to congratulate Tricia for running an excellent and exemplary game on her first time out. The scope of the story was vast and well connected, the motivations of the NPC's could be seen in their actions or lack of actions, making us as players notice when they behaved oddly. Even though some secrets were resolved new ones were presented at game's end should we ever pick things up anew. It was a rich and memorable time, one that I'll look forward lingering over like the last spoonfuls of a good stew.

I am very proud of you, Tricia. Well done.
