Friday night I chose to stay in, have some drinks with my roommate, and blow things up on my computer.
Saturday I attended a poi workshop, and forgot to eat for most of the day.  I came home to find out I accidentally parked my roommate in, got some food, and fell neatly into a food coma.  I was going to pass on a party in NH, but when Hideki called me he was right in my neck of the woods.  I changed my mind on the spot, and the adventure began.

Our directions were less than clear, and we spent about 45 minutes driving up and down some picturesque country roads.  Snow blanketed the trees and houses, the skies were bright with moonlight, and Christmas lights decorated the odd house here and there.  Eventually with some co-ordination with fellow travelers (who were also lost) we arrived at the house.  The first floor was one large open room, in the midst of construction.  The front yard had a large pit dug out of the snow, with a massive snow "Tiki god" who watched over the fire spinners.  Hideki set up his turn tables and spun, while I settled in to work out the last of my food coma.

The evening began to pick up after awhile, with some amusing conversation on a huge bean bag by the fire.  I pried myself out of the pile of people and watching some of the burning, taking a turn doing fire safety duty.  Then it was back inside for more mead, and massages, and general tomfoolery.  The hours wound down, more and more people found spaces to curl up, and eventually a car full of us sped through the night to arrive home in the wee hours of the morning.

Apparently there is a tradition during the Solstice where people stay up all night with a fire to ensure the sun will rise again.  There was a fire place at the party, and people were spinning until late.  So it seems I kept with that part of the tradition, even if accidentally.

Sunday I eeked out a draw in my second to last league game, finished off season 3 of Deadwood, cursed the fact that so many good series don't get to finish, and straightened up the house before trying to get my sleep schedule back on track.
