move any mountain
Sep. 4th, 2007 04:08 pmI put the labor in my labor day weekend. Friday night was spent ignoring a bank of threatening storm clouds while helping two of my friends move. We played truck Tetris, cramming the interior of the truck full and moving from one spacious house to another even more spacious house. We ended up making two trips and finishing our herculean effort by midnight or so. We sat surrounded by boxes, beverages in hand, listening to tales of cycling adventures in Paris.
Next morning and it's time to do it all again: new friends, new furniture, new destinations. One trip was all it too this time, as they have moved a number of items in already. The new apartment is surrounded by flowering vines and protected by a massive Great Dane, black as night and five times as friendly. We bent a few space-time laws getting their couch up the stairs, but in the end humanity triumphed over the Inanimate. More cycling stores were heard and pizza consumed.
Heatray and I journeyed south to CT, for tasty food and delightful company. Our hosts had a nice backyard for poi practice, which I did a bit in between courses. Once darkness fell the skies were extra black, and we could see the faint outline of the Milky Way poured out above us. Meteor showers must be a treat there. Several glasses of water later we piled in the car and drove into the night. We filled the dark spaces around us with words, as cars flashed by us and the road wound beneath.
Sunday held a lousy game of Warhammer, and a much less lousy time catching up with Mathew. Exhaustion hit soon after that, and Monday was largely off kilter too. I tried getting things back on track with Ceremony. For the most part, it worked out.
