random little bits
Mar. 22nd, 2007 10:59 amIt's astonishing how horrible people can be online. I've seen some fairly vicious fights and rude comments on some of the warhammer forums i read, but they pale to some of the comments I see on whatwouldtylerdurdendo or the imdb site. You can't just disagree, you have to insult the other person as well. I swear I go through the seven stages of guilt when reading some of this crap
Shock/Disbelief - Did he really just call that guy a faggot for liking that movie?
Denial - He doesn't really mean that...
Bargaining - Look can't we just be civil to each other here?
Guilt - I can't believe I'm wasting my time arguing with someone on the Internet
Anger - JUST SHUT UP AND DIE ALREADY OMG WTF?
Depression - Humanity deserves to die...
Acceptance and hope - The world is full of stupid people. Fortunately, the ones I know are pretty damn nice.
There have been studies and test done that show that people will act cruelly towards other if they are not observed, and think they can get away with it. This is just an extension of that. People sit at their desks, worlds away from the people they are talking to, slinging the vilest and most hatful insults they can, knowing there are no repercussions to it. It's more than a tad unsettling.
