Friday night I found spiffy parking space just outside of Inman Sq, and met up with folks for dinner with Atfrost and Velvetgarden. I enjoyed catching up with them, and hearing about the wilder side of Seattle. The city's weather sounds very engaging, but the long periods of rain could be especially rough on me. From there it was short walk to Ryles, where I listened to Pimiente Negra. They're a salsa band from Puerto Rico touring the states, my salsa instructors got them to stop in Boston for a show. The venue was packed, but before the dancers flooded the floors, some of the local hot shots strutted their stuff. I was wicked impressed. Bodies spining, ducking under arms, rotating around each other. It shows I have something to look forward to with more practice and future dance lessons. And if you think salsa is hot to listen to, it's twice as hot live. The night ended at Xmortis, with billiards and booze and good company.
Saturday I developed a new appreciation for for hardware shows in the morning and some new consternation with the laundramat. I also learned that sugar highs for me are a very... dangerous thing. I pulled everything together and made it to a bone cracking good BBQ, courtesy of Heatray and Tony Jaa. The Nazi monkey also made a reappearance. After the party was Toast, while some people were burt, I was lightly toasted. With butter. Hearing Figures on a Beach was the jelly on my toast. Here ends the breakfast metaphor.
Sunday saw tasty omelettes, the end of a major chapter in my Exalted game (which played out very well, I must say.), and some quiet time in the Whedonverse with Pyrric. We watched Smile Time for laughs, A Hole in the World for tragedy, Bad Girls for the Buffy/Faith/Curve scene, and Ariel for a healthly dose of Jayne that wasn't Jaynestown. A satisfying end to a great weekend.
