Minor irritations
Apr. 19th, 2002 10:10 amIt's been a few days now, and hopefully the moaning about the Haujobb/VNV show will die down. I've read all the little witty jabs, sarcastic cuts, and general dismissal of the band. I had to stop myself from making some really caustic rebuttals, particular to the email that mocked Ronan for telling the audience to raise their hands, while a video scren says "Think for yourself." OH MY, how CLEVER you are to point out the HYPOCRISY. God forbid a musician tries to stir up the audience and get people moving....
What actually bothers me is not that people don't like VNV. It's a number of people I know and respect criticizing something that I have no problem with. If they don't like it, then their must be something wrong with me for liking it right?
Bollucks. They don't like it, I do. It's a simple as that. Neither party is better or worse for their interests. Some people respond to music intellectually, others emotionally. It's all good.
And see, that's an improvement. It means I'm not getting down on myself for having a difference of opinion. It means that I think my opinions are worth something, and that I'm willing to fight for them. Moreso, it means that I'm not making the assumption that liking something someone else doesn't makes me stupid.
In other annoying news, I found out my account was overdrawn this morning, because I failed to get my roommate's share of the rent. Thank you overdraft protection. But there is a silver cloud to that dark lining. My extra paycheck made it into the bank, and it's a fat one. Convergence and DragonCon are now covered for the summer.
