I am almost brought to tears by an album.
Once again, it is VNV Nation (in particular Carbon, Genesis, and Beloved)

Futureperfect. Buy it. Hear it. Love it.

Wow, not much time to write as it's almost 4 and I have many things to do before I sleep. But all things considered, today's word is .... fantasy.

Fantasies are both good and bad, all in one. At their best they are the creative imagination, imagining faraway places and impossible beings. A hideaway from the mundane world, or a place where mundane things can be placed in magical contexts, and new appreciation gained from them. At their worst they are unrealistic suppositions, impossible ideals we create for ourselves that blind to the reality, or make our everyday achievements seem small in comparison. I know I spend a lot of time thinking about fantastic places, I create entire worlds in my stories and games. And I know I dwell on fantasies that are not achievable, or wicked things that should never see the light of day. I've hurt other people because I've chased fantasies and phantasms and ignored the reality, because it "wasn't" enough". I think there's a definite place for fantasy, in everyone's life. It goes beyond stories of dragons and hobbits, and touches into the source from which those stories came. The capacity to imagine things, to see things from a different light, to see new sides to everything. Fantasy and open mindedness go hand in hand, and tolerance is their child. But you can't ignore reality. You have to live in it, breath it, be a part of it. Look for the beauty in the everyday and common. You'll find it there.

Crap, this is rushed and ending a little quickly. Perhaps I'll add more later... but now the weekend beckons! It teases! It winks naughtily, and I must heed the call!

Later.
