or, we are all made of something and it's not stars.

Monday night I was made of sound and smoke and alcohol. I passed on one song I really should have danced too, but quickly capitulated to the rhythm and an old standard. There were moments, several of them, where I became the music, and was swept along in that way that I always write about and you're probably getting sick of hearing about. How many times can you try to capture the fusion of music and motion? How many times can it hold you and pull through exhaustion with a few opening bars of an old favorite song? Regardless of that, hold and pull it did.

Tuesday I was made of lead. All of the air and energy that fueled me last solidified in my body. I ignored my body's desire to sleep, and reaped the consequences. Sleepy, sloth-like, bottoming out consequences. The project I wanted to finish in two hours went unfinished. Time camped out in my cube and leaned on my shoulders like an overbearing uncle, the one your parents warn you about. It sat and breathed in my ear, and when it moved again I remained where I was until I was sure everything was back to normal. The evening passed slowly and I was determined to get to sleep early... but the laundry took longer than I thought. And once again, I shortchanged the sleep.
Today I am more or less human. The major projects due at the start of next week are finished. All is ready for my departure to Dragon Con in a week. (a week!) My mood is tolerably good, and about to be fortified with delicious food and pleasant company.
And this afternoon will see some creative output or else.

I am suitably chastised.
I did diss on the song title though, but even mocking something is giving it power...
