I had some great thoughts today, about how life is a wave that rises and falls all of the time and no matter how zen you get you will drop some popcorn and curse up a storm and no matter how depressed you get someone will smile and hug you and that there is NO final destination except death and everything is just a moment in time and a point on the wave...

but it's late.
I'll talk about it tomorrow.
Lord knows I'll have the time.
Oh, and I'll cover the whole parental thing too.

I found popcorn dropping a wonderful metaphor. You have so much invested in something, and then it's gone, in this cruel, natural way, and all because of a tiny mistake you made... Fuck! Where are my sleeping pills?

consider it a metaphor for how a simple action that doesn't mean anything can inspire a huge swelling of rage.

I said "huge" and "swelling." ;)

More news on the visit soon.

what does it represent then if you are sitting in a movie theatre waiting for the movie (let's call it the Fellowship of the Ring) to start and when you lean over to put your sunglasses away and randomly jerk your arm back upwards, you whack the bottom of your bag of popcorn precariously grasped with your other hand so that a tremendous fountain of popcorn erupts into the air, showering back down on you and the people around you? And all the other people you went to the movie with are off getting snacks or using the washroom so that you are sitting there all alone as all the popcorn-showered people turn to stare?

(true story, sad to say :)

I would call it a coin balanced on it's edge. One one side lies muttered apologies, a fuming anger, and irritation that lasts through half of the movie. On the other is wide eyed shock, then great bellowing laughter so hard your sides hurt, mixed with a little embarassment, and apologies squeezed out between the laughter.

Which side did the coin land on?

I think it stayed balanced on the edge--I giggled and swept all the popcorn around me under the seats ahead of me and tried to re-muster my dignity as I waited for Mathew to come back. It could have been anger if I'd sent all the popcorn flying but luckily it was only about a third of the bag. At least it wasn't my drink, that would have been messy!
