reminder to self: two very good CD's to listen to for interesting background noise: Solutions for a Small Planet by Haujobb, and III by Download.

I must go through my collection and find more.

Any other recommendations out there? I'm in the mood for more good music.

solutions is much too EBM-mmy for me to listen to as background noise. any of the older FSOL is good: ISDN, lifeforms, and the lifeforms EP. i also listen to a lot of IDM for that purpose: squarepusher, autechre, and aphex twin are favorites, as well as plaid, and more recently, cex and beefcake. crunchy and interesting enough to keep me from toning it out, but not as attention-demanding as stuff with vocals (and associations with dancing).

very good suggestions .. I second. although I find beefacke too distracting for background music. alos boards of canada, and cevin key's "the ghost of each room" too.

Yes, I think I will have to get that Cevin Key album. You know, I still haven't seen the new haircut... in person that is.

it depends on what the music is a background to ;)
