Changes!

Dollhouse viewing with Tegin was awesome. We made it through four episodes, one tray of dip, and many ciders. The next morning I took the T downtown to the World Trade Center, for my cousin's wedding. It took place on the deck of the Spirit of Boston, in a very short and simple ceremony. The bride and groom worked their daughter into the ceremony; she got her own ring on a silver chain. We cruised through the harbor while dining on salmon and apricot glazed pork. There was very little imbibing (thanks to exorbitant drink prices on the ship), some strained singing from the wait staff, and a lot of kids dancing to Keisha and Lady Gaga. The DJ transitioned his songs with the grace of a Mob legbreaker. It was more than a little odd hearing an eight year old's favorite song played: "Born This Way". There was a brief period of me feeling very old, wondering if such a song was appropriate for that age group. Right after having that thought I wished I had a drink.

After the cruise, I escorted my uncle, aunt, cousin, niece (who has her own yoga practice) and Kayla the flower girl through the financial distric and downtown crossing. I took them on their first T ride, and got out at Newbury street for ice cream and record shopping. My cousin was psyched at all the shopping; they grew up in Scranton which is a different world compared to Boston. It was good seeing them, if briefly, and they promised to come back up and see the city properly. There will be clam chowdah and Harvahd Yahd in their future.

After a quick dinner and shower (walking around in a suit coat in 80 degree weather was rough), it was off to a going away party for a good friend of mine. We didn't get to talk much, as I was fried from a long day. The best bet was for me to jet, put in a quick appearance at Machine, and call it night.

Sunday was for Warhammer, modeling and painting, actually grocery shopping, and catching the last two episodes of Game of Thrones. The series went out with a big bang (or a chop and a blaze, more accurately). The only downside was an odd casting and writing choice for Shae, perhaps to make her a stronger character? It didn't sit too well. Grand Maester Pycelle's scene (also new) made up for Shae's. A great end, and I can't wait for the second season in the spring.

Despite all attempts to get a good night's sleep, I awoke every two hours again. I weathered the morning, dropped by Escape to see Jason about a new haircut. He offered me a half price cut if he could cut it Really Short. What the hell. He was very excited, and thought I looked magnificent. I'm not quite as convinced, but I'm not overly worried about it either way.

I'm with you Re: Shae's difering role not sitting well. I can't see why they would make that character change for the tv series. Plus I think that some of her interactions with Tyrion weekend his character a little bit. There is something very definiative for him, in the book, in the way he marches directly into his tent and tells Shae he's taking her to court immediately after his father orders him not to. The back and forth made him look more like he was being pissy rather than defiant. And while I'm on it, cutting out his part in the battle of the Whispering Wood for a moment of comic relief was extremly dissapointing as well.
Then again, there's been enough watering down of the more complex characters already that I've told myself just to shut my mouth and enjoy the pretty, pretty costuming and sets ;)

Yeah, they cut out the entire battlescene, I'm sure they could have come up with a way of short handing it that didn't involve Tyrion looking like a fool. I was amused by Bronn, Tyrion, and Shae playing drinking games. There's still too much bartering between Shae and Tyrion.

I had all of my expectations for 'big battles on cable' cut out of me by Rome1 so I wasn't holding out any hope for a sight of the Whispering Wood or the Battle of the Fords, but I would've dearly loved to see Riverrun on screen. Also missed the Blackfish.

My top spinoff wishlist is a sitcom with Bronn, Shae and Tyrion sharing an apartment in King's Landing while Varys acts as Mr. Roper.

1 because nothing says "no soup for you" like the Battle of Pharsalus being depicted purely by Pompey expositing while using a dead elephant as a couch

I don't know - an 8 year old probably hears "Born This Way" and thinks "I'm born loving princesses and unicorns." I can remember being a little kid, loving Madonna, and having not a clue the real topics of the songs.

Good to see you for Game of Thrones. April 2012 - something to look forward to!

Better she was listening to Lady Gaga than Justin Bieber!
April is looking pretty good. Fortunately, we have a quicker fix of dragons coming in July!

"Scranton which is a different world compared to Boston"

Now there's an understatement ;-)

I was trying to be kind. ;)
