$eek your Match!

My mouse hovered over the submit button. I had updated my old match.com profile, though I never committed to buying the service. This is a new year, and while I'm feeling comfortable and content in my own skin for the moment I recognize that good things happen to those who try. The initial offering price is reasonable, but they want all six months payment up front.

My mouse moved up to the X in the corner of my screen and clicked on it.

It is tempting to try something new, and even advisable considering the state of the scene, but financially I feel better putting off the Active Search for a month or two. Once a few big hurdles are out of the way, and once my savings starts to grow (and when my taxes arrive) I'll take the big plunge. The Christmas cash I received will be better spent helping me fly to San Francisco for a end of winter adventure, maybe allowing for a jaunt to L.A. as well?

i think match.com is a rip off. wait until they have a free month or so

I'll keep my eye open on them. I've been on OKCupid for years, but I haven't been working it as hard as I could be. Initial dates were all rather lackluster.

I HAVE A COUCH! YOU CAN MAKE USE OF IT!!!!

Oh, I'll definitely be seeking you out when I get there! What's the weather like January through March? I'm looking forward to break from the Boston cold. :)

"Cold" doesn't have the same meaning out here. Let's just say that I rarely see my breath, and I've worn my gloves a total of once since I moved.

I use(d) OKCupid. It's free so long as you want it to be, and I think it's comparable or maybe even better than Match simply because of the fact that they are free. Maybe give that a go first?

I found Kai on OKC. Double edged sword for sure... but I loved him very much.

I've been on OKCupid for a while. I had maybe two dates from it and six e-mail exchanges. Nothing went anywhere. Either I'm too wierd for the "average" woman out there, or I'm too picky!

As my confidence improves, maybe things in the Scene will change.

I'm totally curious about your profile on OKC, lol. I'm always interested to see how my friends and I "match" up, so to speak.

I've been on there for years but I only started really using it a few months before I found Kai on there. I've been using it since being out here, and I get contacted by lots of people, but it's not really going anywhere lately.

I guess my point in saying that is I'm all manner of weird, and quirky, and other things that make me not your "average" lady. Dating is a numbers game. [livejournal.com profile] braxana said that to me a long time ago, and it's the truth. You only get a small return on your investment a lot of the time, but the more you put in the more you can expect to get back in return.

Also, if you do happen to make it out to SF I would love to see you and maybe get dinner. :)

We will hang out, and maybe even dance?

Yes, please. :)

I'm doing Match & PlentyOfFish. I think, like most things, it definitely has a lot to do with the amount of effort you put into it and where your head's at the time you are doing so. I've had a few emails and a date or 2. Getting into 2011 I'm going to be putting more energy out there and seeing what comes back for it. At least it's getting me out of the house :)

Good luck & if you want to compare date stories ... anytime ;P
