BSG spoiler musings - part 2
More questions and comments from the TWP site: http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com/show/battlestar_galactica/battlestar_galactica_unanswere.php
Would an entire fleet of people really give up their technology?
One of my friends commented that they had to get rid of all their tech so the Cylons, if still out there, couldn't track them. That's as good a reason as any I suppose, but you could still leave a lot of tools and goos behind, and get rid of the electronics. It sounds like too much logic was thrown out to serve their story to me.
Why did Anders have to die?
This sounds like a plot thing: Starbuck died, and Anders died to be with her. I'm sure they could have auto-programmed their ships to jump into the sun or something. Anders didn't have to die, he just did. Why not ask why any character has to die?
Did the opera house vision really just mean that Baltar/Caprica had to carry Hera five feet?
That was a lot of buildup for something basic, but it still plays into the motif of the series "all of this has happened before" This may look a lot cooler when you see it played out.
Why did Cavil kill himself?
Because Tyrol killed Tory, and with her dead there would be no resurrection technology, so his big quest for immortality was done. He lost his only reason to live. He failed utterly, and lost hope. People have killed themselves for less.
What was the deal with Daniel?
Daniel was a red herring, guys. Deal with it. It would have been cool and convenient for him to be Kara's father, but he was just thrown in to show how jealous Cavil was. It was a Cain and Abel reference. Remember, this show has heavy religious overtones.
Did all the rebel Cylons die in the nuclear blast?
The rebel cylons are all with the Colonial fleet. The colony may be destroyed, but it seems likely that other bas eships are still floating out there. Some of them are still hunting for us, some of them are figuring out how they are going to live and survive, is there are no female cylons in their ranks. Heh.
In whose mind were "Head Six" and "Head Baltar" supposed to exist during the coda?</>
If they are angels, they don't need to be seen in anyone head, they can walk around talk to each other if they want. The point is that they are messengers of some divine force so they can and do walk about on their own when they aren't working :) Not everything needs to be spelled out to you, people. Science fiction is supposed to be thought provoking, remember?
Were the Cylons right about the One God thing all along?
Easy answer, I guess they were! I will say that it's odd that after so many years of being ambiguous and questioning whether God exists, that the authors would decide to answer the question. Even stranger that they come down on the side of "yes there is a God".
Finally, what the hell is Starbuck
A big cop out? Kara was named the harbinger way back before the landed on New Caprica. She did lead humanity to Earth1, but then the writers made it Not Earth. If she really was an angel, then the story was handled in a very muddy way. It would have been far more interested for her to have been a human/cylon hybrid like Hera, which would explain their connection and keep the "all of this has happened before" motif running. She could have been a clone released by the cylons. What she was in the end was pretty unsatisfying. I know I said before that sci fi should make you think, but science fiction is still science, not fantasy. Hey, sometimes a writer writes themselves into a hole. It happens.

Actually, he did. As seen on earlier episodes, Anders could not survive without the very tech that was being destroyed--it was the only thing keeping him somewhat alive and in some state of consciousness.

Again, my opinion may change when i actually WATCH the episode. :)

According to Ronald D. Moore, the daniel thing was far more important to the fans than it was ever intended to be. They didn't expect people to get so fixated on it, which I can kind of see (why introduce a pivotal character so close to the end of the show) and kind of not see (Hello, this is BSG. This is what BSG fans DO).
(this is what BSG fans do)
I'm still a big fan of Starbuck as a cylon/human hybrid. Angel works too, I suppose. I also think Kara wasn't an Angel until she showed up again in the Viper (and where did the VIper come from? That's a bigger unanswered question for me!)
Re: (this is what BSG fans do)
I think - I don't know what I think, haha. I'm going to visit a friend this weekend who is also obsessed, and I think we're going to watch a huge chunk of this last season and try and figure things out.
I'm still a big fan of Starbuck as a cylon/human hybrid.
Me, too. There's something kind of poetic about it - Daniel the musician, Kara the blending, and if Cavil had only known what Kara was, he would have never let Leoben at her.
I wish there had been more Leoben, but I'm going to console myself with the idea that CKR was too busy or something. :c
