life after cancellation

Some of you may know that Buffy the Vampire Slayer has an "official" eight season going on in comics.  Dark Horse is publishing the title, and the first arc was written by Joss himself.  He is overseeing the entire series, and has announced that this is what Season Eight would have been about.  The series is about nine issues in, and I've enjoyed it a lot.  The first arc focused on Buffy, Xander, Willow, and Dawn, with some guest shots from Giles and Andrew.  The second arc focused on Faith and Giles, and it's hella sweet.

What you may not know is that Angel is also getting the same treatment.  "Angel: After the Fall" is a 12 issue limited series that also have the official Joss Whedon treatment.  He's co writing it with Brian Lynch, and it's one hell of a wild ride.  I won't get into any details right now, but the dialogue is very Angel, and it continues in the same dark vein as the TV show.  Word has it issue 2 is released today, so I'll be scouting it out on the way home.

I love the Buffy comic. Jamison started getting them as soon as it was released and now everytime he gets a new issue he hands it to me to read. It's awesome and quite witty.

I'm trying to wait for the trades for it. I just bought "The long road home" recently. Waiting for the Faith comics is killing me! :)

I’m not a big Buffy fan (never really got into the show) however my friend is trying to get me hooked on the DVD’s. So we started watching some of the later episodes. Can you tell me WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO XANDER? He went from very cute to butt ugly. Drugs? Alcohol? Or did he get hit by a bus?

Part of it I think was just a metabolism change as he got older (which happens to most people). Though I understand Nicholas did have an alcoholism problem, which likely contribute to things as well. It's a shame, really.

The Angel comic is excellent

And, btw, Joss is doing another Serenity comic series as well :)

Issue #2 is out today! They are doing some crazy stuff with the title, I'm impressed.

I thought I heard about more Serenity comics. Hooray for new stories!

I have the first few of the Buffy comic, but didn't know about Angel, too!

Interesting...hmm, do they deal with the very very very end of Angel in the comic then?

They do not reveal what happened in that dark alley, the action starts an undisclosed time afterwards. After the first story arch is finished, there will be a standalone comic that gives all the details.
