Super brief weekend review.

Friday: spotty service at Cornwall's but tasty shepherd's pie and cider.  Golden Compass was fun to watch, if a trifle concentrated.  I think any good book crammed into a movie will feel this way, though.

Saturday:  Deadwood, cleaning, the Last Man on Earth, my roommate's birthday party.  Cosmos for everyone!  Also, cuteness.

Sunday: sleeping waaaay in, Warhammer plans put off for a late lunch at Soundbites (newly renovated, with a bar!), more Deadwood, painting.

Desipte the icky weather, I may venture out for dinner or movies with Sharon.  We'll see how that goes.

how is the new expanded Soundbites? is it still all crowded and patrolled by breakfast nazis or can you actually get seated quickly and take your time with a Sunday brunch?

We had a seat at the bar, so were seated very quickly. I can't gauge the wait time overall for a table, but the seating capacity (according to Sharon) was about three times what it used to be. You lose some of the intimacy, but the inside is still very cozy. We arrived at 1:40 and there was no line outside, and a small one inside. No more waiting in the cold!

Food is still excellent, with an expanded omelette menu. I like the Tuscan (portabello mushrooms, red peppers, basil and mozarella.)

The service was prompt, and they dropped off the check quick, but we didn't have anyone ushering us out quickly. I'd say you can have more of a relaxed meal there now.

I liked the look of The Golden Compass, but the movie itself was just OK. So was that Kate Bush singing at the close?

I believe it was!

I think any good book that gets made into a movie is going to suffer, because there's so much you want to squeeze into the film, and just not enough time to do it.

It has made me very eager to read the series, though!

A friend on mine who read the series said if you haven't read the books yet it might not make much sense. Since you haven't read them yet, would you say this is accurate or not?
