I am so very, very, fortunate

Have you ever felt your heart leap into your throat?  It really does, you know.  It seems to stop beating briefly, and you are unable to breathe.  That's how I felt last night when I saw my car straddling the dividing ramp on the bridge outside Ceremony last night.  I didn't throw on the parking break (for the first time in like six years) and while I walked to the club, it was rolling in the opposite direction.  Milkgonebad raced up behind me and told me my car was in the middle of the road.  I raced back up the hill and saw it.  Heart.  Throat.  Yikes.

So many things could have happened.  It could have rolled in front of an oncoming car.  It could have been towed by the police.  It could have rolled all the way down the street into Kendall Sq causing who knows what chaos.  But it didn't.  As calmly as I could, I checked all the tires and looked for any damage.  There was none.  I pushed the car back up the hill, right into my parking spot.  Throwing the break back on the car, I walked back into Ceremony and ordered a stiff drink.

The rest of the night passed in a sweaty haze of dancing and conversations.  I appreciate all the good things I have so much now: my friends, my health, my silver bullet sitting the driveway and not wrapped around another car.  All the little things are just swept away.  I am profoundly thankful for who and where I am right now.

I'm glad to hear that everything worked out for the best!

Thankfully it's now just a funny story, instead of...something else.

ak! I'm glad everything's fine! That area seems to be a black hole of bad car karma (carma?).

I half expected to come out of the club at the end of the night to find the windows smashed in. That was not the case.

Fortunately, my carma is still good!

holy crap!

i have that fear all. the. time. so glad it didn't end in disaster.

how come you pushed the car instead of driving it?

I was the first thing that sprang to mind. I was leery of starting it and driving where it was, so I pushed it clear.

That's insane.

I'm glad you and your car are ok.

It's the kind of crazy I can do without!
Thanks for the well wishes, the silver bullet and I appreciate it!

Wow.
I'm also very glad that didn't turn out differently!

The night would have been too terrible to contemplate.
I'm contemplating instead how fortunate I am!

I don't think I realized how forutnate I am until right now. I could do w/out such extreme lessons in the future, but those seem to be the ones that work best.

Yeesh.
