dance hall days

Friday night I pulled off a parking miracle and found an open metered spot in Inman Sq.  The dance hall upstairs at Ryles is a neat place: a small stage with tables, a large dance floor lined with chairs, another small section of tabels, and the kitched is open until midnight.  There were a few people from my salsa class, and a handful of other people.  We worked through our reggatone dance lessons, which is sorta like a dirty dancing version of salsa where they guys stands behind the girl, for the most part.  The music for the rest of the night was a lot of reggatone, and some salsa.  I had a reasonably good time, for being in a new space and not knowing anyone.

Saturday was pretty much eaten up by goofing off and Warhammer.  I almost bagged on Soul Revival, but dragged myself over to Mishak's for pre-club drinks and socializing.  Heatray highly recommended the night to me, that and my firm decision to try new things propelled me on into the night.  Our merry band drove out to W. Newton St. in the South End.  Soul Revival took place in a converted church.  You could still smell the incense in the air when you walked in, but the large bar in the entryway reminded you this was no church.  The main room was gorgeous:  high vaulted ceilings, a balcony that spread around the top like wings, old pews and cafe tables strewn about, and a second bar where a pipe organ once sat.  The music was pretty good, some tracks really stood out, others were okay, and the vibe from the very mixed crowd was refreshingly upbeat.  Ballroom dancers turned next to break dancers, older and younger dancers, people having a ball.  My ride left a little early, but I enjoyed it a lot, and will likely return in the future.

Sunday I helped af friend move.  The weather was gorgeous, and while we were loading the truck the tree next to her hourse was raining white flower petals all overs us.  I felt like I was in the movie Hero, or Legend, except without the wire work or Tim Curry.  The move went very quickly, and though I was tired and thought I was unprepared, I picked up couplingchaos and ran my Exalted game, which keeps getting better and better every time I do it.  I'll probably be finishing the story arc soon, and I think it will be Awesome.  Quite possibly as awesome as the stew that Cannongirl made for dinner.  Yum.

There you have it.  New experiences, good experiences, floral experiences.  This weekend was definitely a win.

I'm glad the weekend was a success!

Saturday night was definitely more fun than Friday, but I imagine Friday could be fun too with a decent crowd.

Hope you had a good time too!

Congratulations!! It sounds like change in routine is good!

Hahaha- reggaton. To me, that music is good for the first 30 seconds. Then it feels like repetitive hell.

Did they play "Dame Mas Gasolina?" That song always makes me laugh, especially ever since I found out what it really means!

Since I listen to a lot of techno, I can hardly give reggaton grief for being repetitive :)

They did play that song, I think it's a staple. Now I need to look up the meaning...

Ok, just found the meaning... classy!

Soul Revival sounds like fun. I'll have to check that out some time.

Just to be repetitive, Sunday's game was really really amazing. I really love when we can all get into our characters and not have to think about our reactions, but just do them.

And you all do so very, very well. It really helps create great atmosphere for the game.

Next session: lots of action!

My pleasure. I even wore the tight jeans and tank top, as requested!
