Excelsior

Woke up late today, nice and chill. Watched some TV, made it out to an epic DND game where, once again, I didn't die (and Gabriel kicked some serious ass, Mrzero). Today was very chill.

This weekend hung on a precipice, it could have gone either way. It fell into the awesome side of the chasm. And I even have next weekend to look forward to.

Thirty six is starting out to be a very good year.

When last we left our heroes, we were in a temple the Pale Man was using as a base of operations in a Drow city. There were four portals in a room each one leading to a realm of one of the Quartet. Operating the portals required two sacrifices! While grappling with the moral dilemna of opening the portals, The Pale Man (Andros) appeared. We have officially been upgraded to a major irritant. :)
He spoke of a new plan he was going to put before the Quartet, if it worked he would be unstoppable. We bypassed the prismatic wall he used to block access to the portal room, and found two of the portals active. We hurried through one, with a band of freed slaves in tow (they chose to risk uncertian death accompanying us rather than the sure death from the City Guard.) We also picked up a new companion, Melody, a Drow agent of the Sisterhood, who hopes to clandestinly help weakend the Quartet's position in her city. Strangely, the party seems to trust our CE ally more than they did Dren when I turned evil *grin*.
We passed through the portal into a large cavern, where we had to barter all of our treasure to win safe passage for us and for our refugees. the next set of guards, cloud giants, wouldn't let us pass. Realizing that our refugees were going to be a major problem, Killib (Ralph's priest) plane shifted them all home. After a day's rest, when it became obvious the cloud giants weren't going to let us through, we took a more "active" approach in bypassing them. A battle with a giant four armed ape man ended quickly when a destruction destroyed him, and we convinced another champion not to fight with us (remember the banana slug demon that was guarding a cornerstone in the elved quarter? yep, that was him). Our next encounter proved more devastating: four armored tyrannosaurus'. We maneuvered them into a bottleneck where only two could attack at one time, but that didn't stop them from swallowing Killib, Melody, and Hans whole. We triumphed in the end, but at the cost of Melody and Hans's life.

Gabriel spent a lot of time standing on the ceiling raining arrows down on people. He rolled two crits on one cloud giant (doing 75 pts of damage in a round), and a crit on the giant age (eye shot!). Durign the fight against the dinosaurs, he did alright until he dropped his bow. He ran down to engage in HTH combat, but only had to fight a round before we killed the last beast.
