The finish line

I can still remember looking at the single largest check I ever wrote. Thousands of dollars, all represented on a small strip of paper. It didn't weight any more than any other check, but the significance of it was heavy. I was about to purchase my first brand new car. Over the next five years my car (the Silver Bullet) has taken me from Montreal to Georgia. We've gone to raves, to beach parties, to crowded cities, to secluded houses. It has scars from near misses and misjudged turns. It's served me flawlessly save for a flat tire. But it was all on borrowed time. The car belonged to the bank, you see, it's wasn't really my car.

Now it is.

As of this morning, my last car payment check cleared the bank. Wave the checkered flags and pop the champagne. The Silver Bullet is now mine.

*YAY*

It's a major accomplishment.
It's like getting a big raise each month!
It's knowing that the bank "can't take that away from me."

I will definitely have a celebration in honor of this, perhaps to coincide with my first cookout of the season!

congratulations!!

Time to put some pudding in the trunk.

dear god that sounds like some awful euphemism of some sort...

but congrats on the car!

In this case it's very literal (Barry and Levone)
and thank you thank you about the car!

Congratulations. It's a wonderful feeling, to be out from under debt ... also like feeling you're borrowing your rich uncle's car everytime you want to drive somewhere.

[identity profile] silas7.livejournal.com 2004-04-07 10:34 am (UTC)(link)
My only other debt is my student loan, but that will always be there. :)

By the time I pay that off, I'll likely have a mortgage to pay. So as far as I'm concerned, I'm out of debt!

[identity profile] darla.livejournal.com 2004-04-07 09:10 am (UTC)(link)
Yay! That's so exciting. i could never be so responsible. ; )

[identity profile] silas7.livejournal.com 2004-04-07 10:36 am (UTC)(link)
You'd be surprised. After a while you think it will never end. Then you make your piece with making the payments. And then one day... POOF! The payments are gone, and you get to think about what you'll do with all that extra money :)

[identity profile] mrfph.livejournal.com 2004-04-07 10:05 am (UTC)(link)
That is the best feeling in the world. When those bastards mail you the title, put it somewhere safe!
Plus, do you know how many extra cds you can buy a week now :)

[identity profile] silas7.livejournal.com 2004-04-07 10:43 am (UTC)(link)
I think I'll frame the title and hang it in my room!

I can buy 3 extra CDs a week now.
Or,
8 sushi dinners a month!

Or I can do something mundane, like get my taxes caught up.

What I'd like to do most is put some of that away towards traveling.

what model izzit?

[identity profile] silas7.livejournal.com 2004-04-07 10:45 am (UTC)(link)
1999 Suzuki Esteem. It's been very reliable, with good gas mileage, and it looks nice enough to my eyes. Not a lot of power, but it takes me where I want to go, and doesn't fall apart!

[identity profile] sirendipity.livejournal.com 2004-04-07 10:56 am (UTC)(link)
woot!

congrats, sweetie!

*hugs*
