My car has been rescued

I dropped off some money in the bank, and then took it out again to pay for the tow.
I fired off an e-mail to the folks at Ritual Design for the last of my reimbursement.
They responded today, after the paypal fee it exactly covers the cost of the tow. Score.

Within 3-4 days time, I will be back where I was. Which isn't very good.

I called the student loan office, they are sending me a deferment form so I don't have to pay them for a little bit.
I will be selling at least one more Warhammer army.

I am also going to try to enjoy my time up here over the next month and a half, in case I end up moving away.

So, a question for my readers: What other jobs should I be applying for, i.e., what else could you see me doing and doing well? Besides help desk, or painting miniatures.

would you be direly allergic to retail, at least as a stopgap measure until something better comes along? I could see you in a bookstore, I think (or certainly in a gaming shop, though they probably pay terribly, worse than bookstores anyway).

Or how do you feel about high school students? Maybe you could parlay your help desk experience into a good background for tutoring, not just in computer stuff but also in whatever topics you always excelled in. Again, not big bucks, but probably better than UI...

If you don't mind answering phones and data entry, wearing a dress shirt and slacks, you can get temporary employment anywhere for $10/hour. (Transcription is more but you'll wear out your hands.) It takes the edge off unemployment. That's what I'm doing. It gets me out of the house.

You can get full time work in retail or food service, but it won't pay as well, and you'll probably make too much to collect unemployment.

Working your way up to a decently paying management position is tough. Starting your own business is hell. I'm not sure I'm ready for it yet.

How's your Spanish? There are always jobs for the bilingual.

It occurred to me today that you would make an awesome cop. We really need more intelligent, decent cops out there. And maybe you could even get into cyber-crimes detective work; you're certainly more qualified for that than the average cop. My office manager's son is a Mass. state police officer; he actually left law to become a cop. He makes a buttload of money doing details (I'm talking $100K+, including his base pay). Right now he mostly does security for Gov. Romney.

It's the closest thing to superhero I can think of in this day and age.
