Surprise Clan Meeting

My tournament experience in Maryland started with a beautiful sunny Friday, and ended with a fierce snow storm that almost stranded us on the highway. Sandwiched between that were five incredibly fun games of Warhammer that will make for fine stories. My battle reports continue to spread, with readers all over the USA and Europe. I have people wanting to play against me now, just so they can become featured in a story. It turns out that even a bad game can become a good story, which helps put a new spin on how I view tournaments. I did particularly well this time (9th place out of 62, and Best in Race for my army) but the real highlight of the trip was a surprise visit from my parents and sisters (and a few cousins and nieces) who drove down from PA to take me to dinner.

Gathered around a table with good food, live music, and the bustle of people, I got to hang out and chat with my entire family as grown ups for the third time in maybe ten years. My sisters haven't been a part of my life for many years, and I was gently amused that all of the things they asked about (acting, playing the saxophone, martial arts) were things I haven't done in many years. They were all happy to see me and eager to hear about my newer exploits. It's strange, so much of our earlier life seemed full on conflict and ear-splitting arguments. It's about all I can remember of that time, that and my sisters being much more popular than I was. But people grow up. My sisters have had to handle some major issues in their lives, but they have weathered their storms and are living their lives. Having kids of their own ended up bringing out the best in them. They keep talking about coming up to visit me in Boston, and I know it's not likely to happen ,but if it does I will be pleased to get to know my sisters again, and try to reconnect with each other on equal footing.
