And now, the weekend review
On Friday night I went to the backyard drive in down the street, for a double bill of The Running Man and Commando. It was very enjoyable trip down memory lane. "In the year 2017, the work was on the brink of economic ruin." scrolled the opening crawl of the Running Man, and we all groaned and joked that the writers were off about five years. I strongly urge anyone out there to start thinking about Crossfit; when the Cadre comes a knockin', you'll want to be able to run fast and far. After the movies I popped in to say hi to Lisa and Francesca at Wonder Bar and called it a night.
I won't say that I was out of bed super early Saturday, but I'm willing to bet I was more hung over than most of the people who were up before me helping a friend move. I didn't let a little thing like heat or lack of food get in the way of slinging large boxes around. The move went at a leisurely place as Nicole plotted the best way to Tetris pack the truck. As a result, we have plenty of extra room and made the trip with no problems. A few hours later we were all slumped on a breezy back porch near Inman Square, scarfing down pizza and cider. A thousand blessings on my friends for thinking of my drinking needs! There was time to shower and clean a bit, then it was off to the Hungry Tiger Street Fair to chat with friends and watch the fire spinners, before heading off for Kevin's birthday shenanigans. My kabobs at the fair were tasty, but my pulled pork at Lord Hobo was not. Food really seems to be hit or miss there, but since they have Original Sin cider, I'll forgive them. It was a nice of good relaxed conversations and warm feelings of community and belonging. My night ended shortly before the late night bike ride, so well before the oncoming storm.
Sunday was devoted to a few Warhammer games and food shopping, along with acquiring more movies for the Fantasia archives. It was also a day of reflection. There was a time when I knew who I would ask to be my best man and groomsmen on the day I married. I don't know if that's necessary true anymore. Friendships grow and change, and despite one's efforts people do grow apart. Rest assured, there are no plans for a wedding right away, which gives me time to sort that situation out. The week ahead was already quite packed, so I refrained from Spin Jam and Naja in favor of actually having some down time. Tonight is for Torchwood, Thursday is for Fantasia movies with our extended posse, and Wednesday and Friday are for X's: Excess and Xmortis. Two more nights to reconnect with old friends, and maybe meet some new ones.
