Sleep is the Enemy

I finished Mockingjay on Friday, the third in a series of books written by Suzanne Collins (The Hunger Games and Catching Fire are the first two). In the country of Panem, twelve districts are ruled over by the decadent and technologically advanced Capitol. Every year each District sends two children to fight in the Hunger Games (think Battle Royale combined with reality TV). For a young adult novel, it's incredibly dark and riveting. Suzanne excels at hitting you with cliffhangers and pulling the rug out from under you. (For those of you wondering why I'm readying young adult fiction, my Mom is a school teacher and constantly wants my opinion on books she can introduce her class to.). If you're a fan of Battle Royale, check out these books. They're a fast and gripping read.

Friday night was Billy Joel night. Sara and I tore through all the new downloads for Rock Band (along with some Johnny Cash), with Lipika brushing the rust off her bass skills. We ended the night staying up late watching the Boondocks. Normally I love uttering lines from cartoons shows that I like, but I have to be really careful about letting things slip. I am not Huey or Riley.

Saturday I got a practice game in for next weeks tournament, and did some painting. My plans to go to Jaded were de-railed by extreme exhaustion. There was a lot of hullabaloo over the shooting in Arizona. Tempers are running high all over, I'm trying to restrain myself until we get more information. Much has been said about it, but the bottom line I think is that crazy people are crazy.

Sunday I moved back to the player's seat in our DND campaign. Forest incorporated a lot of my notes into the background history of his campaign. Let's hear it for co-operative story telling! Game let out a little early, so I spent the rest of the night with a few drinks and a lot of Rock Band practice, venturing into the world of Expert level.

Today I am still paying for a late night, and a lack of water. There are potential dinner plans, which should be fun. The whole week looks pretty booked in fact, in a very pleasant way.
