Feb. 23rd, 2010

Friday nights dinner was as delicious as advertised, and the company was great. I got to reconnect with some of my fire spinning friends, watch other friends enjoy their first time at the dinner, and steal away for a little quiet time amid the madness. Not all was well, though. The scales tipped precipitously and the emotional backlash was ugly. The morning came, as it always does, but the wounds were not yet healed. There was little time to worry about that, as I had a tournament to prepare for.

The tournament itself went very well! Properly fortified with water and energy boosts, I started the day with a narrow and dramatic loss, then clawed my way back into the rankings with two crushing wins. A bonus for the day was having Heatray check out a game, answering questions while I played. I think I ended the day around 4th or 5th out of 20. The top three players were all from our club, and I was proud of all of them for their performance. The tournament was running late, so I rushed home (as fast as the T could take me), to find the Post Mortem party already underway.

A quick run to the store brought reinforcements of mixers, snacks, and booze. Then it was time to change to the fuzzy pants, and relax. Highlights of the party include some serious rocking out, drinking from the Conflict Cup (a trophy I won as part of a team event), and some good heart to heart talks. Most refreshing was a complete lack of any kind of dark moods. Sunday eventually prodded me from my bed with it's cheery rays of light, those of us who remained cleaned up the place and I made my way over to our DND game.

Sleep was the enemy, and most of us were dragging at some point or other, but the game itself was very satisfying. The week marches on. I'm catching up on the Sarah Conner Chronicles, keeping caught up with work, and staying within my new budget scheme, so I have a nice nest egg growing. I also have a potential invitation to a party that might be worth missing a Warhammer tournament for. We shall see how that pans out.
