My vacation this weekend started out with a long, rainy drive in gray weather.  Six hours of zooming down the Mass Pike, into New York.  Water plumes curling out from behind our car like foamy tails.  My friends Ragnar and Jim, long time warhammer buddies and fellow veterans of the Grand Tournament scene, spent their time discussing tactics and singing lots of 80's and 90's songs.  I forgot how much I liked Texarkana by R.E.M.  We passed through lush forests and farms, the trees just tinged with a hint of the fall splendor that is to come.  We made record time and checked in.

Jim took a break to sleep, while Ragnar and I hunted down food and drinks for the weekend.  I only got one pickup game that night, since we all watched the presidential debates in our hotel room.  Judging from the conversation later, so did many of the other tournament players.

Saturday stayed gray and wet outside, but inside it was all smack talk and dice rolling.  I ended the day with two wins and a loss.  Having already bettered my record from last year, we left the hall for dinner at Tuna II.  We brought Matt York with us, the organizer of the Colonial in New Jersey (another frequent stop for us).  This year I ate just the right amount of fish, and endured a lot of ribbing about the "expression" I make when I eat the super white tuna.  I am unapologetic about this.  We toasted the chef frequently with sake, and were soon toasted ourselves.  Jim again crashed early, Ragnar got another practice game in, and I sat down for a poker game.  Ninety minutes and a pair of pocket threes later, I raked in the last of the chips and cleared the table.

Sunday, sunday.  Another night of bad sleep (horrible fans in the rooms) but tasty free breakfast (BACON!). I won my first game of the day which put me potentially in a position for a top ten finish.  I proceed to lose my last game, and while mistakes were made it was tons of fun, and that's all you can ask out of a game.  In the end I placed 16th out of 62, one of my best finishes ever.  At no time dd I get angry about dice during the weekend.  That's what I call a victory.

The rest of the week is dedicated to shopping for supplies, Deadlands, and then Wild Fire.  I'm all a-tingle about it.
Man, how hard can it be to find an oragne hoodie (that's not online?)

You'd be surprised!
