When words fail you, trust in touch. There is something so comforting and grounding in the sensation of touch. When life hits your hardest, and when nothing makes sense, touch anchors you in the hear and now, in the tangible. It's a shelter from crazy, tempestuous thoughts and emotions. It's not a bandaid to fix a wound, but it's a stable platform. One of the biggest benefits of a relationship, is having someone you can touch without reservation or hesitation, who will share that sense with you. One of the best things about being a friend, is to provide that anchor to someone who really needs it.

a long weekend
May. 12th, 2008 02:27 pmThursday and Saturday I was up in Salem, learning to bowl on the Wii, watching Planet Earth, and generally trying to be helpful.
Friday night I combined two different extremes: a small party celebrating a new kitchen with friends, and a more raucous evening pirating to celebrating "la vie boheme". I maintained my limit, AND had a blast. My current course seems well and truly set.
Sunday I saw Iron Man (it rocked) and the latest BSG episode (INTENSE!). I also did some window shopping for a new desk/office chair, as I too received my refund. The rest of the day was pretty emotionally off kilter, due to my eating schedule being way off. I need to remember to keep the same discipline I have at work in place at home, when it comes to food. More bad moods and crashes can be avoided that way.
Saturday I also had a long conversation about the way people act in our scene, and how I and others fit into it. Sometimes people attitudes and beliefs can severely conflict, and when that happens you need to analyze how much of that you want to put up, and whether or not it's time to cash in and try for something else. It's not something I've decided on yet, but it has kicked a lot of things loose in my head. Once I get past the next few days, I can dig into that more. The next few days are for someone else.
