Chasing the Moon
Oct. 15th, 2007 02:08 pmIt's been a while since I've seen an artistic show. I used to see plays, and musicals, and had some time on stage many years ago. It was nice to slip back into that world an observer, when I saw the show Avec Nous this weekend. I picked up Nimfe and we made it to the theater just in time, to join our friends just before the lights came down. There were five dance routines, three group pieces and two solo works. Two choreographers were presenting. The first had one group number I liked, with lot of activity and technique, but the second two were not my cup of tea. I lost interest near the end, too many conceptual things were happening with the sound and songs that pulled me out of the performance. The second choreographer was much better. I was mesmerized by the solo piece, the choral work and blue lighting worked very well with the dance. The group piece started very somber, and ended on a much more playful note. Photiq was a performer in the last number, it was great to see him performing outside the club. It was a very smart decision to end the show with their piece "Moon Chaser".
Afterwards a few of us retreated to Arlington for drinks and discussion. I was a bit worried that I'd not be able to contribute much to the dance discussions, but sitting in the kitched with a glass of wine I talked and talked and talked some more. We shared our impressions of the dance, how it made us feel, unlocking memories of our own time in the spotlight. The night wore on and we said our goodbyes, so we could wish Mishaka happy birthday. Nimfe made the acquaintace of the Green Fairy, while I was getting comfortable with my Original Sin. The evening continued to babble on pleasantly, including some nice words with Sharon, before we departed and I dropped Nimfe off so she could go to work in the morning, and I could sleep in.
