Friday was strongly leaning towards a night in after a very crappy week.  A surprise dinner request from Heatray turned that around quickly, and we hit the "Vampire Chicks with Chainsaws" party in high spirits.  VCwC was as bad as you'd expect it to be.  We couldn't hear much  of the dialog over our own riotous laughter, which was for the best.  What few lines we heard were stolen from other movies, to our delight.

Saturday I go to the tournament on time, but forgot my wallet and the laptop for scoring.  I was furious, and then watched my dice and some bad decision on my part lead me to a 2 loss, 1 draw day.  I was particularly angry because I'm trying to show that you don't need to use the hardest list to do well, but my performance today didn't reflect that.  The day was rescued by the cocktail party at Noir.  Several James Ellroy named drinks and a little food and things turned around greatly.  The real catalyst for change were the people who were there.  Kudos and cheers to all of you!

The night ended on a surreal note, as I stopped in at a toga party.  Thankfully I still had that old fabric from a NYE's party past.  The house was decorated beautifully, but what was most stunning was the grass on the living room floor.  Yes, actual sod.  I stood there like John McClaine, clenching my toes in the grass, drink in hand.  Definitely one of the more surreal moments of the year, but very enjoyable.  Sleep came rumbling in again, and rather than pass out in the corner I drove home just before the (large) second wave of revelers arrived.

Lazy Sunday day.  I was supposed to meet a friend at the Enormous Room, but her plans were changed on her.  It worked out in my favor, as I watched Nepenthe dance at the Middle East, then ran into _perihelion_ for drinks and conversation.  The conversation was good, then very challenging, but that gets it's own entry.

The large mix of good and bad starts the week out on shaky ground.  I hope to have a good long night at poi, then I'm heading home.  No Ceremony tonight, most likely next week for Down with Tempo.
