The weekend activities are all a blur, muted. They sit like exhibits in glass shelves. If you wear the little earplug and press the red button, you will hear a tinny recording of people talking and dancing at clubs. Press another button and you will smell bacon, or hear the phrase "a murderous shadow lies across my soul." Another button will roll dice, little men on plastic trays pushed across the board, victory defeat hinging on the roll of two colored cubes.
All of these things are far away, because I like many others was the victim of really poor sleep, and an ugly gray day. Grey is not a neutral color. It is a hungry, consuming, numbing color. It leaches heat, swallows emotion, suck the fun right out of your bones. Motivation grinds to a halt under a gray sky. Caffeine is of limited use against it. Deadlines and pressure help, when judiciously applied.
If I could take the time, I'd leave right now and sleep, just for a few hours. A trip to the gym and my new routine would do some wonders for my energy too, I'm sure. Until then, I'll take a lap around the building, stretch my long and lean frame, and push on through till the gray darkens to black.
