I thought I'd write my first post from the New Job. There's not much else I can do while the laptop I'm working on is being formatted, so I'm free to type.

Day One of the New Job was quite a roller coaster. My first task was to build my own computer. This was plagued with problems, as Windows wouldn't install on it. The second hard drive suffered the same fate as the first. After I moved it to a new computer entirely, things proceeded more of less smoothly. I updated the software installation guide they gave me as I went along, to make them a trifle more user-friendly.

The rest of the day was spent locked out of the network, as my brand new computer (and dozens of others) were hit by the new variant of the msblast virus. I'd make some comment about Outbreak and monkeys, but I don't like monkeys that much. So I won't. I stayed late helping repair several machines and went home, after a brief spin through Groton. By the time I arrived home, my car was making a loud grinding noise. Pushing back bleak thoughts of massive car failure, I dropped it off this morning for repairs. Let's just say that a $10 repair bill is nothing to worry about!

Today's pace is much more laid back. I'm stymied in a lot of my duties, because I'm not completely set up yet. My phone doesn't ring, I don't have a proper ID, or the right level of permissions. All of that should change when the head IT manager returns. In the meantime, I'll check my mail and busy myself with doing small tasks.
I've already had a free lunch yesterday, and free tea and donuts this morning. My late lunch was not free, and my stomach is punishing me for eating at Burger King. As well it should.
