How the absinthe fairy stole Christmas
Dec. 25th, 2002 11:57 pmor my Christmas this year.
I started the morning with a cup of tea, and open faced ham, egg, and cheese sandwiches for the roommate and I. I continued my secret project for the day. Other HBK has spent this Christmas with us, and it has turned out to be quite a good time. He's also a big Buffy fan, a fact that I wasn't aware of. We bonded about various episodes, and speculated about the future of the show.
I served up the O'Brien traditional Christmas dinner, which it seems I was the only O'Brien to observe this year. The dinner opened with shrimp cocktail, followed my baked cod, baked scallops, and baked lobster meat (claws and tails) with basmati rice and peas. It was a sumptuous decadent feast, our once a year celebration where the family raised by two school teachers splurges on a big meal to celebrate another year together. I called then during the middle of the day. Mom and I talked quite nicely, but there seemed to be a bit of distance between my father and I. I chalk that up to, my father being a taciturn fellow. I'll see him and Mom over the weekend in New Jersey, so I'm sure all will be ironed out.
In between television viewings of the Grinch and Moulin Rouge, I all but finished my last regiment of the army I'm currently working on, and they look sweet. I'll badger Clay into taking some pictures, so you can all see what I spend so much time on.
Besides the gifts I got for myself (with the money my parents and relative sent me) I received a book of I Ching and the SeaLab 2020 board game. So who want to come over and play the SeaLab 2021 version of the game?
Oops! Dart in your neck!
Even though I was far from my own family, it felt like a family Christmas. It was a warm and peaceful day. There's more Moulin Rouge to watch, and the show continues to blanket the house with it's wintery goodness. Howling winds, flashes of lightning, drumrolls of thunder. What better way to spend a Christmas?
Well yes, there's a lot to be said for a warm blanket, a roaring fire and a bottle of champagne for two. Those of you who can indulge in such pleasure so do so. Absolutely.
Merry Christmas, y'all.
